Tonight was perhaps the most intense LMC gathering thus far, but was still incredibly rewarding for us, and we hope for you. It seems (not that we weren’t already aware) that feelings and opinions are already running high regarding Summer Sundae, which was clear from the Q & A section of the night, with Rob Challice bearing some intense questioning about the event. On a positive note, both he and Dean Jackson noted that the spotlight was on Leicester to a degree at the moment, with several acts gaining daytime radio 1 play and a general feeling nationally that the city has one of the strongest music scenes in the country.

We briefly discussed the LMC Bursary scheme and will be approaching several of the meetings contributors for a more indepth, intimate meeting about it in the next few weeks, from which we will report back as soon as we can. People generally seemed enthusiastic about the idea and some great suggestions were made. A number of people have already volunteered their time, knowledge and services to run alongside the financial element of the scheme – It was agreed that guidance and passing on experience would be just as important as the cash.

From some of the discussions towards the end of the meeting some further points were made which may lead to further development of the LMC as a service to Leicester’s music scene – for example perhaps lobbying the city council for places for independent venues and promoters to post posters across the city, and to look in to shared flyering licenses under the LMC banner. We’ll get on to this as soon as possible and let you know if we can do anything about it.

Once again it was great to see such a great cross section of Leicester’s musical community in attendance, and we hope no one was put off by the rather intense atmosphere! Please do spread the word and we look forward to the next meeting which will be held on Monday 6th June, which will also be the publication date of the next LMC Guide.

The next LMC event is scheduled for Monday 4th April at The LCB Depot from roughly 7 – 9pm

We’re expecting this one to be particularly busy, not least because we’ve got Rob Chalice from Coda Music Agency and The Summer Sundae Weekender coming down to give the obligatory keynote speech and field any questions you may have.

The event is open to anyone who wants to attend – whether you be a musician, promoter, venue manager, or gig goer. Though we do suggest you come down early if you want a seat!

We’ll also be discussing the LMC Bursary, which is something we’ve been planning for a little while, but which needs some discussion and consideration from a wider audience. Essentially we’re looking to offer small grants to worthy music-based projects within the county – be it to bands, community groups, promoters with original ideas or what have you. We need your input on how to decide who gets the money, and how to make sure it is well spent, once it has been distributed.

Feel free to post any thoughts as comments on this post, and we’ll make sure they’re heard at the meeting if you’re unable to attend.
